Porcelain Veneers Are an Easy Way to Get a Brand New Smile

Your smile is a very important feature – it communicates a lot about you to the outside world. Yet some people hide their smiles because they are ashamed of the state of their teeth. No matter how you have treated your teeth in the past, cosmetic dentistry in Jacksonville Beach, FL, offers solutions to get your smile flashing again. Veneers are a particularly simple and beautiful way to get your teeth looking healthy and bright once more.

Understanding Veneers

Veneers are basically a very fine shell of porcelain that is designed to fit on the front of a tooth. Each one is custom made in order to match the teeth of the patient. Applying a veneer to a tooth changes the tooth’s color when other procedures are ineffective. For example, teeth can become damaged and stained due to root canal procedures, trauma or exposure to tetracycline. When applied by a professional and properly cared for, veneers can last for years.

The Process

It may take a few appointments to finish applying the veneers. On the first visit, the teeth receiving the veneers will be buffed in order to accommodate the thickness of the porcelain when it is applied. Your dentist will then take a mold of your teeth for creating the veneers.

At the next visit, your dentist checks the size, fit and color of each veneer. You can decide if you want the color adjusted at all at this point. Once you are satisfied with the color, the veneers are cleaned with a special cleaner and attached to the tooth using a special bond hardened by a light beam.

Are Veneers Right for You?

While they might not be ideal for every patient, porcelain veneers are an easy way to get a brand-new smile. To schedule a veneer consultation with Dr. Kathryn E. Ryan, contact the office at Parkway Prosthodontics today!
